LCD or LED displays require an active driver that varies the polarity of the voltage across the pixel at a frequency of about 60 Hz. Unlike an LED screen, an E-ink display retains an image without consuming any extra power, even when all power sources are removed. An LED display annually consumes 40 to 100 KWh of electricity. This boils down to an average of 30 euros per year. On the other hand, an E-ink display only consumes 4 to 10 KWh, which equates to around 80 cents per year. E-ink displays significantly reduce costs, especially when multiple screens are used. The larger the E-ink display, the more electrical power can be saved compared to an LED screen of similar dimensions.

An E-ink display uses power only when the image it displays changes. Due to this bistability technology and low power consumption, our E-ink displays are 99% more energy efficient than LCD or LED screens.

Just like with any reflective surface, the stronger the ambient light, the brighter the screen gets. This feature mimics traditional ink and paper. It ensures excellent legibility, day and night, in direct sunlight as well as under artificial light conditions, from any angle and without reflection.
